The Eidolic Mind - TBP Inspired Science-fantasy Project

Hey there guys,

Its been a minute! Not sure how relavant this will be to the broader Monty discussions, but I’ve been working on a science-fantasy worldbuilding project for some time now, to which the TBP has been a pretty big inspiration! I was just wanting to share a part of it with those of you who might be interested.

The story itself is called Kaarthōsis. It takes place on a many-layered world; a half decayed matryoshka brain-like construct called Mnestis.

Anyhow, Mnestis is an artifical world, a super computer, whose cognitive framework is, in part, inspired by the TBH. This is what I was hoping to share with you all.

Its a bit of a longer document, so please, don’t feel obligated to read the whole thing. If you do take a look though, I’d love to know your thoughts and opinions. Especially those with a neuro- or compsci
background. Obviously this is a work of fiction, but even still, I want it rooted in some basis of reality.

Lastly, if only to entice you to give the doc a read, here are some visual renderings of the world. (I’m told people love colorful pictures)

The word ‘eidolic’ is new to me. Does it have the same root as ‘eidetic’? That’s photographic-grade memory that may or may not actually exist in the real world.

Good question. Its the adjective form of the Greek Eidolon, meaning image, apparition, phantom, or spirit. Its normally used to describe an idealized form of something.

That said, its funny that you mention eidetic. The name of the planet the characters are on, Mnestis, is actually derived from the word mnēsis (also Greek), meaning memory, or the act of recalling. Mnēsis is also the root for the modern word Amnesia. Which is kinda fun.
