OT: Cory Doctorow's recent Guardian article on AI

AI companies will fail. We can salvage something from the wreckage, by Cory Doctorow

This is a pretty long read, but Cory is a really good writer and he keeps things moving and understandable. Like all too many folks (sigh), he uses the term “AI” to talk about LLMs, etc. So, there’s no easy way to talk about other forms of AI, including GOFAI, TBT, et al.

However, since these other forms are mostly a rounding error in the current economic and technical world, this may not be all that important. If and when some other forms of AI start to make a noticeable impact, some other terminology may (eventually :-) be used to describe it. Meanwhile, folks like me will simply have to “get used to it”.

Anyway, Cory covers a LOT of territory in this article. I’d like to see some of his arguments discussed more widely… Getting back to TBT implications, it may be worth thinking about how the TBP (if successful) would affect society, etc.
