Annoying link and tag restrictions

I just posted my first message to this forum. In doing so, I ran into a couple of annoying restrictions:

  • The “optional tags” field did not let me add new (i.e., unknown) tags, such as “elixir”, “actor model”, etc. Given that this forum is rather new, almost every tag that folks try to use will be new. So, this restriction seems ill-considered, at best.

  • After carefully adding explanatory links for a number of terms, I was forced to delete all but two of them in order submit the post. Apparently this was due to my status as a new user.

Please consider addressing these issues.

Hi @Rich_Morin
It’s a common thing on new Discourse-powered forums.
Good that you pointed that!

@brainwaves - I see you are the only one admin currently, as a shortcut you can set default members level to 1 or 2. Also Google/Github auth can save quite a bit of time. Thanks for using the forum by the way instead of just Github project!

@Rich_Morin Good feedback.

One other person has raised this issue - the reason is that discourse strongly recommends these defaults and warms about a spam apocalypse if you don’t have this setting,

That said, I’m willing to try going up to level 1 for new users, and I’ll deal with the spam if we get any.

@anatol.m Thanks!

Its in our plans to add Google/GitHub auth.

Yea I was also forced to delete all the links in my first post to this forum as well and it was annoying.

However I believe it is rather a Discourse UI problem than a default trust level problem, not much that can be done here I guess.

If anything else comes up or is annoying, please let me know, I’ll try my best to fix it, and we want to remove as many barriers as possible so the community can engage effectively.
