2025/01 - Brainstorming on Compositional Policies - Part 7

Jeff reviews behaviour and state to create a common understanding of the problem space and how layers in the cortical column might be encoding this information.

It would be useful to have a copy of Jeff’s text document available for this discussion thread. That way, we could quote from it before making comments and raising questions.

Jeff’s document says: “Metric” means that the spacing of locations is the same in all directions.

This seems to imply a linear (as opposed to, say, logarithmic or exponential) spacing of locations. This might help to explain the fact that humans don’t deal well with non-linear trends.

It also ties in with the fact that our ears and eyes gather data from non-linear sources (e.g., dB in audio), but (I suspect) send it to the brain in a linearized fashion. Comment?

In closing, I’d like to say that I really like being able to listen to these sessions, post comments and questions about them, etc. (All too often, the inner workings of scientific projects remain private, with only the final, polished results being published.)
